All month long Rhonda Parrish and her helper elves are hosting the posts of other people as part of my 2015 Giftmas Blog Tour. All the guest bloggers are welcome to write about anything they’d like so long as their post touched on a December holiday in some way, no matter how tangentially. This website will also host several Giftmas blog posts throughout December. Share them on social media using the hashtag #GiftmasTour.
But wait! There’s more! We’re also giving away a whole whack of prizes (check out the list here) which you can enter to win using the Rafflecoper at the end of this post. Whatever December holiday you celebrate (or don’t) winning a stack of books will make it better! |
This Year, We're Building Christmas Traditions
I've never been a Christmas fanatic. I've always loved the holiday and the feeling the season brings. I enjoyed doing festive things with my family as a kid. But I wasn't the "plan my Christmas village in July" sort of person. Honestly, I'm still not. Even so, the excitement for decorating and all things Christmas is heightened now that I have children of my own. And taking part in and creating new traditions is at the top of my priority list.
I was in the Christmas spirit as soon as I took a bite of turkey on Thanksgiving. I don't like all of that super-early Christmas infiltration prior to turkey day but once we were shoveling pumpkin pie in our faces, I was itching to get the tree out of the closet.
And now that my daughter is three years old, she's much more in tune with the happenings of the holidays than she was last year, even, so watching her eyes light up as the ornaments came out of their boxes was a treat. She was so excited to hang ornaments on the tree. So excited. Of course, all the ornaments are pretty much stuck to one side of the tree down low, but who needs perfect tree symmetry, colorscapes, and themes when you have a little girl who wants to hang the ornaments "All by myself!"
Excitement over all things Christmas is in the air at my house, with my daughter asking every day "Is Christmas going to be today?" Not to count out my almost 11-month old son who points at the lights on the tree and those hung about the house and kicks our ribs in giddy-up fashion until we bring him closer to them.
